all the houses bake meat and the smoke smell is pervasive everywhere.
It is assumed to have originated from the festivities in
honor of Bacchus of ancient Greeks and Romans who survived Christianity.
On this day essentially begin the events of Carnival, which culminates with the koulouma Clean Monday.
