DOMENIKOS THEOTOKOPOULOS

1541 - 1614
A great painter of the Renaissance, a native of Crete, undoubtedly one of the greatest personalities of World Art.
He lived and worked most of his life in Spain and from there comes the nickname El Greco (The Greek), which is also known.
For many years the name remained in obscurity and paintings in churches and palaces of Italy and Spain were considered to be of a madman.
Since the beginning of the 20th century his work began to be recognized and is today considered one of the leading artists of all time, who influenced painters of modern art, such as Pablo Picasso.
Greco's paintings adorn the largest museums and private collections and the value of some of them is the fabulous.
